Teens do not need to finish the classroom portion in order to start driving with us.

*Remember to only let your teenager drive with a RESPONSIBLE Adult 21 and up.

3. Completed and passed all 6 hours of Behind the Wheel
4. Completed and passed all 6 hours of Observation time
5. Paid all fees owed to Brake-Thru Driving School

*After all the above are completed and passed Brake-Thru Driving School will send the appropriate documentation to the Secretary of State. How does my teenager’s high school receive notification about the completion of Drivers Education at Brake-Thru Driving School?

When you have fulfilled all of your requirements at Brake-Thru Driving School, we will send in your documentation to the Illinois Secretary of State Office. *Make sure to keep a copy for your records

Behind the Wheel (BTW) Information

What is Behind the Wheel (BTW)?

BTW= behind the wheel or in-car training with certified instructor

*This portion of the Drivers Education program can be completed during or after the classroom sessions, depending on instructor and teen availability. Most classes will start scheduling BTW when they receive permits after third (3rd) week of class.

How do I sign up for a BTW appointment?

Students can sign-up for Behind the Wheel by going to the BTW Schedule: when we drive page. The instructions on how to schedule an appointment are listed on this page. For any assistance please contact Brake-Thru Driving School

How many BTW appointments can I schedule each week?

You can book up to two (2) drives each week if they are available. It is state law that you cannot complete your drives in less than 14 days, so the web site will not allow you to book them less than three days in between each BTW lesson.

*This limit setting will allow you to practice what we teach you in each BTW lesson with your parents. Please remember, we need to work as a team to learn safe and responsible driving habits. Please do not just rush through your BTW lessons to get them done.

How do I cancel a BTW appointment?

To cancel a BTW appointment you can log into your account on our brakethrudriving.com website and cancel or reschedule your appointment. We must receive at least a 24 hour notice for all BTW cancellations like it states in our contract. If there is no notice given or less than 24 hour notice the student will be charged a $50.00 late cancellation fee.

*Again you will be charged a $50.00 fee if you are attempting to cancel a BTW appointment with less than 24 hour notice.

Why is there a $50.00 cancellation fee?

Each BTW lesson is carefully scheduled with students so they can both drive and be observed. When your child does not show up for their scheduled lesson, you have taken the observation time away from the other student, thus, that student will have to reschedule that portion of their lesson as a result of your Childs errors.

We also pay our instructors for all scheduled drive times, so if your teen cancels, we still have to pay the instructor.

Lastly, we want to instill responsibility and consideration for driving in your child so that they will become the most successful driver.

Class Information

What if my teen is absent for a classroom session?

In Illinois it is a state law that all teens must complete 30 hours of classroom time. Each student at Brake-Thru Driving School can miss up to four (4) class periods or sessions, but must make up those periods in a future class session, once their scheduled class session is complete.

*After missing more than four (4) periods or sessions, Brake-Thru Driving School will have to cancel the teen from the current class session due to state law. You will have to re-enroll your teen and repay class fee again.

How do I make up a class period that I missed?

The class instructor will keep on file which class or classes you miss. It is your responsibility to make arrangements with class instructor to make up class time and information missed. *If you do not make up class time and information you missed you will receive a failing grade for course.

*No exceptions
